Question

XSL:FO - fo:table - Overflow

Asked by: robbert

Hi all,

I'm using AntennaHouse XSL Formatter v2.5.

The problem is, tables rows are not placed on the next page when the table is too large for the page.

There is no error thrown, and the table is much larger than region-before + region-body + region-after (so the problem cannot be the page layout I think).

I tried,
<fo:table keep-together.within-page="0" overflow="error-if-overflow"> (didn't result in an error, btw.)
...
<fo:table-row keep-together="0" keep-with-previous="0" keep-with-next="0" break-before="page">
and related alternatives but there was never any effect.

Any ideas? - Thanks.

can you post your xml and fo doc

you could try

<fo:table-row keep-together="always" >
or
<fo:table-row keep-with-next="always">

I had a simlar problem with the table overflow with my page, even in landscape orientation. If the pages were too wide left to right they wouldnt format correctly, although when they were too long they would follow the fo:page-sequence correctly.

the only way i could overcome this was to set the font size as a variable and count the number or rows in my table. If the table had 10 rows my fontsize would be 16pt and if the table was 15 rows, id use a fontsize of 14 etc.

its not the best solution but it works for me.

You could try the Helpdesk at Antenna House. They're very helpful and know their nuts!

Thanks metalmickey,

<fo:table-row keep-together="always" > ... "always"? - I thought there might rather be a "not always" enumeration value but the documentation says, there is anything but an Integer "weight".
I'll prepare a test document in few days (as I'm completely busy now).

Sorry for coming back so late. The problem is still relevant, though.

- It's the fo:block-container elements which don't appear to be able to span multiple pages.

I seem to need them, though, as I need a margin at the left side of page. This margin may or may not contain fo:blocks (which may not reserve vertical space right to it - so I'm using fo:float). Thus, I can't use a table cell as a spacer.

Sample code I'm currently working with follows. It should be two pages but is one only, because of the fo:block-container I'm using. When you change fo:block-container to fo:block, the left margin disappears.

Thanks very much for looking into it.

As for the record, this problem can be solved by setting the intrusion-displace attribute to "none" (but have a look at the conformance status report of your PDF renderer).

Moderator, this could be PAQ'ed (has a nice rank at Google, btw.).  Thanks

by: robbertPosted on 2004-11-11 at 12:23:50ID: 12558751

The problem has been solved, and the solution has been posted.  There were NO helpful comments but my own findings.

Additionally, I guess this has been a quite specific issue,
which has become outdated by updates by the third-party software sellers,

so I'm recommending to delete this question.

Thanks.

That's why I suggested to PAQ this question, which means that it will be saved for future reference. If we delete it then users with the same problem won't be able to find a solution.
