Unable to read records from a file inside for loop

Hi ,
 Am trying to read records from delimmitted text file ( '|') using ksh script . Its 2 columns
Iam trying to loop through that file and for each second column data , i need to create one file  with file name as first column.
so if i have 10 records, i need to have 10 files  and each file has data from column2 .
firstcolumn   2ndcolumn
123           |    Some xml data
..
...

output files is 123.xml with xmldata inside it.

Any help is appreciated
