Simple xml playlist for flv video player

I just dont understand the xml process. is it necesssary to use xml to achieve what im trying to accomplish in the attached photo?

All im trying to achieve is a html file that has aprox 8 thumbnails on the left side of the window which would contain photos relating to the videos. When the user clicks on a photo it would load a flv file in a video player.  (such as the JW FLV MEDIA PLAYER 3.16)

i attached a photo of the exact layout im trying to achieve
