The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

C# and XML, building a DOM

Asked by stretch73 in Extensible Markup Language (XML), C# Programming Language, Programming for ASP.NET

I am working on updating fairly typical reporting site from ASP to .NET.  The database calls are sent via CICS calls and I'm having some issues manipulating the data when it comes back.  In ASP, it was pretty simple because you could just pull the elements apart in line by line code.  It was also a maintenance nightmare.  I have tried implementing the XMLDataSource and here is the actual problem.  The CICS service only returns a specific number of rows and then appends a MORE element at the end to let the UI know to make another call.  Here's the XML:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<REPLY TYPE="DISPLAY CLNT ACCT G">
<CLNTACCTSVC>
<OCCUR CLIENT="000090506" ACCT-NUM="0003252665918     " BO=" " ACCT-NAME="CREDIT DAUPHINE LLC                               " SVC="PRIOR DAY      " DBAI          =" " DDET          ="Y" DSUM          ="Y" />
<OCCUR CLIENT="000090506" ACCT-NUM="0003253633025     " BO=" " ACCT-NAME="CARDIFF GIANT                                     " SVC="PRIOR DAY      " DBAI          =" " DDET          ="Y" DSUM          ="Y" />
<OCCUR CLIENT="000090506" ACCT-NUM="0003153645198     " BO=" " ACCT-NAME="INITRODE                                          " SVC="PRIOR DAY      " DBAI          =" " DDET          ="Y" DSUM          ="Y" />
<MORE NEXT="Y" />
</CLNTACCTSVC>
</REPLY>

So in ASP, there was a loop that basically said to pull the information out of the elements and if the <MORE NEXT /> element was "Y", make another call, and then write the result out on the page.  I'm trying to find a way to mimic the functionality of the old application.  I'm thinking the XMLDatasource is probably out but manually building a DOM might be the way to go.  I'm very new to XML so any suggestions would help immensely.

Thanks,

N
