Could you provide a sample of the XML that amazon provide.

You should be able to use a XSL file to convert the XML into CSV. If we have the source XML and know how you want the CSV formatted we could probably create an XSL file for you.

  <Content>Really cheap plastic. The quality of the glasses weren't much better than the quality of a Mardi Gras throw. Mardi Gras throw = No quality. <Content>As some have said before, the lenses are a little on the small side, however, after using them several times on rides, the lens size seems right. <Summary>Very Nice</Summary>
  <Content>I ordered two pair of these, and got them two days later with regular shipping... VERY FAST SHIPPING! They look good and fit well too... You cant compare them to Oakley or SPY Optics, but for $6 to $12 you can complain. verses $100 to $350 for Oakley or SPY Optics... I give it 5 stars, really great product for the price.</Content>

  <Content>They had actually sent me a defective pair. The left bridge was broken. <br /> <br />I sent them an email and they sent me a replacement no questions asked. What was better was that I live in Singapore and they still sent me a replacement with no cost. Now thats great service. <br /> <br />I love the design of this pair and the service by Jimarti. <Summary>Very nice</Summary>
  <Content>These sunglasses may look a little odd, to me at least, but they fit well and certainly appear to be fairly rugged. <br /> <br />They have some flex in them so one doesn't have to worry about them snapping when you take them off. <br /> <br />The lenses are a little small for my taste but I am able to comfortably wear these sunglasses for long periods of time. I can recommend them to other buyers.</Content>

  <Summary>Nice looking shades</Summary>
  <Content>These are nice looking sunglasses, and a great price. It's tough to purchase this type of item online, my first pair that were delivered were a little warped, However a replacement pair was sent the day I inquired. Also, the description of "unbreakable" is a little off, My replacement pair broke with a soccer ball header, again, a replacement pair was sent the day free of charge (great customer service!)</Content>

  <Summary>They fit nice.</Summary>
  <Content>I bought these sunglasses for my husband. They fit nice, but they look a little different. They have this bumpy design on the front of the glasses I didn't notice when I saw the picture. Look closely and you'll see. This is the only thing I don't like about the sunglasses. My husband has no complaints, so I think they're good. I just don't like the bumpy design. I think it looks a little wierd.</Content>

Amazon provide a lot of information!

I presume you want a CSV file that lists the Items in the data. I have created a sample transform that works with your second XML source and provides a few columns from the Item in it.

To preview it you can do the following:

  • Save my XSL file as Amazon.xsl

  • Save your source XML file in the same folder (say as Amazon.xml)
  • Edit the Amazon.xml file so it starts like this.
<itemlookupresponse ...=""><?xml version="1.0" ?>
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="Amazon.xsl"?>
<ItemLookupResponse ...

This tells the XML file to use my XSL file to format itself.

View the Amazon.xml file in your browser. You should see a CSV formatted result.

Note: the way you copied your XML into the code snippet makes the XML invalid. I presume you just selected and copied it from a browser. You need to "view source" and copy that, as the browser does some re-formatting of the XML to display it.

Another helpful link about xsl, which includes a online tool for transforming the XML

</itemlookupresponse>

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:amazon="http://webservices.amazon.com/AWSECommerceService/2005-10-05">
	<xsl:output method="text"/>

	<!-- the main routine-->
	<xsl:template match="/">

		<!-- create heading row-->
		<xsl:text>ASIN, SalesRank, Author
</xsl:text>

		<!-- find all items hand have them processed -->
		<xsl:apply-templates select="amazon:ItemLookupResponse/amazon:Items/amazon:Item"/>
	</xsl:template>

	<!-- handles each Item/row -->
	<xsl:template match="amazon:Item">
		<!-- add each fields value-->
		<xsl:apply-templates select="amazon:ASIN"/>
		<xsl:text>, </xsl:text>
		<xsl:apply-templates select="amazon:SalesRank"/>
		<xsl:text>, </xsl:text>
		<xsl:apply-templates select="amazon:ItemAttributes/amazon:Author"/>

		<!-- Simple way to add a new line-->
		<xsl:text>
</xsl:text>
	</xsl:template>

</xsl:stylesheet>
