Question

XPath expression to select nodes for sorting xml

I am trying to sort the attached XML file using the below xslt code.
The problem is I would like to give the sorting element dynamically.
So, instead of select ="cell/COUNTRY" I want to do select="cell{XPathExpression}"

I tried select="cell/$sortfield" since this is an pnput parameter, it does not work and I get a transformation error.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

The issue is xsl cannot convert a string to a xpath expression.
So if I say select="{$sortorder}", it will not work .
Solved the problem by a workaround as follows:

replaced select="cell/COUNTRY" with "cell/NODE" in the original xsl file.
Used the calling java program to parse the xsl file , replace NODE with whatever the program was supposed to pass, and created a new xsl file. The new xsl file was used to transform the xml.
