change password of an a jabber account installe don Linux

I have jabber server installed on debian linux 4.0. I got one jabber user that he lost his jabber password and I accidentally deleted his user.xml file on linux.

Is there a way that I can retrive his password?

If you have deleted the user.xml file you will need to recreate it..

Replace myuser and mypass in the attached code snippet should get you going.  Alternatively you can just recreate the account as you would normally.

I tried doing it, i could not connect to jabber still with the modified xml file

I tried modifying the xml file and when I connected to jabber account, it said jen@kent.homelinux.net/Office disabled 401: Unauthorized

Did you stop and restart the jabber service after dropping the xml file in place ?

"service jabber restart" as the root account.  the jabber part, might actually be jabberd, you will have to check for the correct name in /etc/init.d/

okay, if you use service jabber reload the users should not be disconnected.  However from a safety point of view wait until you have a maintenance window or after hours to do this.

Yes it should, however as I haven't ran a Jabber server for several years, I can't remember the effect or service jabber reload.  Specifically the current users.
