I have the code which can be seen at the end of this post which outputs the field as 20090414 09:06:30. What I want to do is replace all spaces and the colons to leave me with just 20090414090630
I've searched high and low but can not find a answer. Any help would be appreciated.

THe normalize-space replaces repeated spaces and tabs with just one space. But basically one must use translate many time to get rid of each unwanted character in turn.
