Are there are MSSQL tools which work directly with S3?
Once i have the bulk of the images uploaded i will only really require changes to be uploaded so the upload will be minimal after the inital 'big' upload.

Browse All TopicsHi,
I'm looking at using Amazon's S3 Simple Storage Solution. I have about 100Gb of data i need to backup offsite and a regular basis from my severs (images, SQL data etc). Is this services ok for doing this? I have done a bit of research and can see that there are a few programs available that connect directly into the S3 service and can upload directly.
I would appreciate any suggestions and thoughts regarding this.
Regards,
Tom

It is an excellent solution, but it is not a point and click solution.
you actually have to understand what you are doing both in S3 and on your side.
The main issue you are likely to have with all online backup services is bandwidth.
If you have a dedicated 512KB uplink, it takes almost 2.5 days to upload 100GB :(
Take a look at jets3t - it is a set of tools to work with S3, and includes a tool to sync files with S3.
Oracle's backup utility, RMAN, can work directly with S3.
