List the Topic Areas You Want to See on EE.

List the computer/IT and related topics that you would like to add on EE. An example would be a BeOS topic area.

AutoCAD/General & and AutoCAD/Customisation areas would be nice
Like I said before more than once I would be happy if an ATL/COM/DCOM section would be opened.
I - and also others - asked for that more than once since the last 2 years but nothing happens until now.
And nobody tells why.
This is from Hshliang (for OLEDB):

I found this site very helpful. I am learning OLEDB and wonder if you can add a new Heading for OLEDB. As it is said to be THE database programming of the future.
Thank you.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will let this list grow a bit before I send it to Community Development for their consideration.

Hello, daisymae!

Here's are my suggestions:

- Assembly programming area
- General electronics area (engineering, desing and the like)
- Component writing area (as a subtopic of the Delphi area)
- A Handheld Devices area (for HP calculators - specially the HP-48 and 491, PSion, some fancy cell phones - like the Nokia 9110i -, and other handhelds that don't fit in the Palm/WinCE areas)

I'll think of a few more.

Alex
By the way, the assembly programming area could be divided like this:

Assembly:General
Assembly:x86
Assembly:68000
Assembly:microcontrollers

Alex
Another ideas that just hit me:

- MS BackOffice
- Breaking up the Windows NT area in several:
  Windows NT : Administration
  Windows NT : Setup
  Windows NT : BackOffice
- A drivers area, where people would go specifically to get pointers to hard-to-find device drivers

Ok... that's already over 10 areas suggested. Better stop now.

Alex

like nick hall and many others i think AutoCAD sectionswould be welcome.
e.g. general, customization, programming, tools

3D Studio VIZ and MAX also would be appreciated.

thx in advance ;)
I'm too interested in ATL/COM/DCOM area. There are some other inetresting programming trends, like COM+/MTS and XML.

tnx,aarone
Qbasic, Turbo Pascal and other *old* dos programming languages
aarone > we got XML

but what about

-SOAP = XML-RPC
-XSL
-XHTML(must in a few months)
-WAP/BlueTooth(must in a few months)

and for the programming practices
>Extreem Programming<

what about Eiffel :O) just kidding

and thanks for the fun!
o yeah before i forget

add to that

-ZOPE
-PYTHON
How about Alphabetizing the ones we have?  Might be easier to find XML, etc.  I wasn't looking for XML, but when I did look for others, I had to search the list a couple times.  Alphabetizing would ease some confusion.
already done....

https://www.experts-exchange.com/grouping_alphabetical.html

or am i makin' the wrong assumption...
Citrix/Metaframe would be nice if you haven't added it recently.
How about having one on solutions/architectures ?
I just want to add my support for the DOS languages idea. Especially QB and VBDos.
From time to time I need a *little* program that will automate something that I or other people need to do. I am learning C in my very spare time, also Perl. I don't do IT where I work, and don't hope to master C or Perl. I am a late in life computer geek who now helps friends. I could always use help, and with *little* programs, such help would probably give me the entire program in one response. I don't fit your membereship profile, I am sure.
It would be nice to see some sort of topic area devoted to Novell Networking, I am currently getting my CNA and I am finding that Novell has a lot of good points, especially in the area of stability
<How about Alphabetizing the ones we have? >

This link is rather tricky to find, but if you click on the complete topic area listing on the home page, you will find the alaphabetical listing link towards the bottom, right side of the page.
Whats wrong with a borland builder topic area? I have to do alot of searching for answers to my questions and also to answer questions in this area. thanks...
ATTENTION!  If you really want to see a specific topic area, please gather as much data as you can showing why EE needs to include it.  Information such as: number of questions asked about the topic, number of users, number of requests for it, etc.  Then post this information in a new question, in this topic area.
ADO

N-Tiered Devlopment using ASP, VB, ADO
"General electronics area (engineering, desing and the like)"

I AGREE!!! ELECTRONICS! ELECTRONICS! ELECTRONICS!  Afterall, this is the year 2k, everything(well almost) is run on electronics, it only makes perfect sense :)
Electronics...
Automotive...
automotive???

I meant automobile
I agree:

Electronics
QBasic/Turbo Pascal/Old dos languages

And don't forget the Music topic area that people (see scrapdog) have been requesting for ages...

I did that some time ago but I think to EE should figure out that.
May be EE should provide a site where suggestions are listed and users can vote to want it
<<May be EE should provide a site where suggestions are listed and users can vote to want it>>
Great idea!
To The_EE_Man:

With all due respect, but if we are to follow your suggestion, what's the point of this entire thread? Why wasn't your statement made before we all took the time to make suggestions in this thread?

Alex
well such a site would have a complete other layout.
For a fast shot to know which topics are needed this thread is needed but after that EE has to decide wich topics shall be implemented.

if suggestions are collected EE has
to decide which topics realy are needed. A vote site where each user can vote for the suggested topics would help to make the decicions.

on the other side it would stop to ask for the same thing again and again

Each user should have only one vote for each suggestion (to get a representative votation)

>stop to ask for the same thing again and again

Right! I've lost track of times people has asked for an Assembly programming area... and we still have to justify why we want it?

Alex
Yes and the same with ATL/COM/DCOM section
simonet:  With all due respect, I didn't post this thread, so I can not tell you what exactly the point of it is.  I have ideas, of course, but daisymae has the answer.

also >>Why wasn't your statement made before we all took the time to make suggestions in this thread?

Probably because I didn't know I needed the information then.
A section on Lotus SmartSuite would be useful.  There are 20million users world wide so I think it can be justified
Automotive...

Who in hell doesn't own a Car??? :P
>Who in hell doesn't own a Car???

Me, until last December!
Me... Me??? and who's Me???
I don't own a car, but then I'm not in hell so that doesn't count...
Hey subby... little boys don't count man... get your founds to work for you might get a brand new car...
lol :)
I'd like to keep this thread open for another week, so just a reminder: List the computer/IT and related topics that you would like to add on EE; not general knowledge topics, but computer/IT related topic areas. This is a chance to add new topics.
Comment accepted as answer
Thanks again for all of your suggestions. I am in the process of organizing a list that I will present to the Director of Community Development next week.
Will there be an information for the useres wich topics will be implemented in the near future?
Or have we poor users to die stupid ?
Norbert,

We are working on the list that will be added this week, and we will announce the topic areas on the home page, left navigation bar, under the heading "EE News and Updates."

The topic areas listed in this thread will be presented next week, and added if approved.

I am not sure how long it takes to add a topic area, but it depends on what other projects our engineers and web developers are working.

Check the home page for the list.

Cheers,
daisymae
