New to the scene, KCTS has already made a major impact on the community
EE: Where do you live?
I live in Camborne, Cornwall, UK.
EE: Describe yourself in four words.
Tall, Dark, Handsome, Liar.
EE: Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
Who cares — it just doesn't.
EE: How has technology impacted your life?
It took me away from teaching, into consultancy, and now into happy semi-retirement.
EE: How did you earn so many points? Question filters? QuickEE? Do you have a strategy?
No strategy — I just put a question filter on the topics that I had expertise in and
which interested me.
EE: If you won the lottery, how would you spend your money?
Pay off my mortgage and buy a wildlife reserve.
EE: What does it take to be Rookie of the Year?
A lot of time on your hands.
EE: Did you set out at the beginning of this year to become the Rookie of the Year?
I didn't even know there was such an award until December.
EE: HD-DVD or Blu-ray?
I'm happy with VHS (but I thought Betamax was better).
EE: What was unique about being an Expert in 2007?
I stumbled on the site last year. It's a good way to give something back and to keep
expanding my own knowledge at the same time.
EE: What technology were you the most excited about in 2007?
Not much — and I certainly won't be rushing out to buy an iPhone.
EE: What technology are you anxiously waiting for in 2008?
A stable version of Vista and, of course, Windows 2008 Server.
EE: Remember the prediction that everybody would have his or her own flying car by the year
2000? What do you predict for the future of Experts Exchange? (This way, when it happens,
you can tell all your friends, "I called it!")
Microsoft have this habit of acquiring things that are useful to them — perhaps EE
will be next?
EE: What advice do you have for aspiring Experts around the world?
Hang on in there — and don't expect to get it right all the time (or even get the
credit when you do).
EE: How about a shout-out to some of your favorite people at Experts Exchange?
Other experts have made me feel very welcome and have given me some useful advice and
guidance when I've messed up. It would be unfair to single anyone out, but those who have
helped me know who they are, and I thank them all.
