Not having a degree in Computer Science won't be a real problem as long as you have appropriate experience and a degree in a technical field. Lots of programmers have degrees in other related fields (mine's in math).

Web designers tend to have art or graphics design degrees, as it is more design than programming.

P.S. I don't like being called Sir, since I am not a man.

Dear conchita and jimwasson

Tell me somebody told me that for h1 visa the eligibility criteria is degree in science or computer science. But many programers (who were graduate in commerce) from india have gone to USA on H1 visa . So am i eligible for H1 visa as i am a commerce graduate and i ahve 1 yr diploma. Pls tell me
I couldn't tell you whether or nor you are qualified for the visa.  You should check with the authorities for that.  The degrees that I have seen, though, are in computer science or closely related fields -- but they are all technical people, programmers or DBAs, etc.
Sorry, I don't know about visa requirements.
Sounds like you might have a hard time getting a visa, not because of the field of your degree, but because it's a 1year degree, but if you know people who have gotten a Visa on this type of degree it should be okay. You might want to look at http://travel.state.gov/visa_services.html for some details.

It's probably best to check with immigration directly, or some of the placement services - they should be able to determine whether you're eligible.

And if you're not eligible for a work visa, you could probably get an education visa and come here to go to school for a degree that will get you the work Visa. And you could even work part time while going to school.
