Oracle

I've just finished installing Oracle 8.0.5 on my Windows NT Server 4.0
I have no database at all.
I run the Server Manager in line mode (svrmgr30.exe) and got a prompt:
TNS: Unable to connect to destination.
After that, I use Database Assistant to create a new database. In the database creation progress:
- Creating and starting Oracle Instance (pass)
- Creating database files (error)
At this step, I got a message box
ORA-12203 TNS: Unable to connect to destination.
And then the progress stoped.
Can you give any direction? Thanks!

All the relative services have started already!
I've checked this very carefully!
One more thing since the database is not created there is no question of all those thing. try to create the database first. then only every thing will work.

Nice question title!!

Before running Server Manager you may have to manually set the SID at a DOS prompt like this:

set ORACLE_SID=ORCL

Note, "ORCL" is the default.  Whatever value you use must match the entries in your init*.ora file and your listener.ora file.

If you get the TNS error as soon as you start Server Manager, there is a problem that must be fixed first.
Hi NBee,

Have you started the listner.

Have you checked the tnsnames.ora files.

markqeer's way can not solve the problem!

I have no database at all, so what do I have to check in tnsnames.ora files? (the listener already started)
i think the basic and fundamental thing is the database without database how could u connect and where wouldu connect.

But I've just finished installing Oracle and then I run the Server Manager in line mode and I get the error message. And I can't create any database at all.
With oracle installation have u created database or not.

I have tried once creating database with Oracle Installation but I've got the same error warning!
Does the NT account that you used for the Oracle installation have "local administrator" privilege?  It needs that.  It does not need to have domain administrator privileges.

Are you using the same NT login when you try to run Server Manager that you used for the installation?

Do you know for sure if the install created a starter database, or not?  If it did, by default the files for the database would be in your Oracle_home\database directory.  They would have names like: initorcl.ora; system.ora; temp.ora; rollback.ora; log*.ora, etc.

The conditions are valid. And I know for sure that the install did not create any starter database 'cause it can't create any (as I told u above).
