Oracle 8.0.4 and 8.1.5!

hi all!
I have installed Oracle 8.1.5 on server Windows NT 4.0 (SP5).
On a client computer, I installed Oracle 8.0.4 Client.
I use Net8 Easy Config on client to create a connectin to server. When I test the service, I got this message:
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist.
Can u help me?

I thing in tnsnames.ora file the value you have put against HOST is server machine name. If it is so then try putting IP Address instread

If this doesnt work then post your server side listener.ora file and client side tnsnames.ora file and sqlnet.ora located at $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin\

Hi,
To solve this error follow these checks:

1) Ping the hostname exactly as written in the tnsnames.ora
If the ping falis try pinging with ip-address and if this works change the tnsnames to use ip.

2) Check that the listener is up and working on the server machine.
lsnrctl>status

Also try to create a tns connection on the server, exatcly the same as you created on the client machine and test it with tnsping and see that it works.
(Still on the server the hostname can be recognized while on the client it can make problems)

3) Check that the client and listener are using the same ports (The default is 1521).
