Annoying!

Every time I write an app in VB using the web browser control it causes it to crash before too long. This is very, very annoying. Is there a reason for this? Is it likely to be a problem specific to my computer?

I would appreciate some help, I would especially appreciate it if anyone knows of another browser control (non Microsoft) which I can use. I have Mozilla installed on my machine but I can't have it as a component of my VB project. I have looked around the net for a web browser control with no luck. I wouldn't mind having to install a new browser if it meant I could use an instance of it in VB.
Any ideas, Please?

i dont know of any other browser controls...

what version of VB do you use?  what service packs have you applied, if any?  what version of IE are you running?

IE 5, VB 6, no service packs. Do you think it would be worth installing an earlier version of IE? Is it possible to have an earlier version of the web browser control with IE5 installed?
installing SP4 should definitely help...there have been many issues that were resolved with SP4 relating to IE5
btw, be sure to update your question about scripting across frames in the Web Dev area   :-)
if the problem still arise after you've already installed the SP4, I'd suggest you to check on your web server. Sometimes, things happen just like that esp on a web server running Com+.

good luck.

It happens when I use IE, not just the control, but not to the same extent. It's like it's hanging while trying to load the page but never loads the plain so it doen't respond.
Just an idea, but perhaps the website is trying to download something (eg flash plugin).  Try setting your security options in IE to prompt before downloading (or disable completely) - also prompt before running activex / javascript etc.

See if you can tell if it's specific web pages and it always hangs on those pages, or just in general

No, it really doesn't matter what page it is.
