IE5.5 prompting for DIAL-UP connection when LAN proxy connections is available

Since an automated upgrade of IE5 to IE5.5 failed on my Windows 2000 machine IE5 prompts for a dial-up connection ignoring the PROXY settings in LAN CONNECTION.

No matter what I try I cannot get IE5 to access the LAN proxy. I have re-installed IE5 from a cd-rom etectra..

Why would it be ignoring the LAN SETTINGS?

do you have never dial selected?
do you have any dial up connections to the network?
Was the IE5.5 cd you used a standard version or a branded one supplied by an ISP....if you are not sure a branded one would usually have changed the window title to internet explorer supplied by.....
in this case you may need to edit the registry

ajosphson stated in another open/old question that satisfactory results weren't obtained in all of the above questions and would like to receive a refund and PAQ/close it.  Any objections, or anything further you'd like to add to try and complete this collaboration effort?

Thanks,

An appropriate answer has been provided to this question, however I believe ajosephson has chosen to ignore it. I can't conceive of the possibility that 12 questions, plus this one, did not receive a satisfactory response.

ajosephson--->  You logged in yesterday and did bring a conclusion to some, but PLEASE do so here and in the other remaining items as well.

You'll find that your experience in Experts Exchange will be more rewarding if you remain active in all your open questions, and provide ongoing feedback to the results from help given.  Then, when the goal is achieved, award the first expert who best served you.  Frequently, more than one expert comment actually helps you solve the issue, and when that is the case, Moderators can help you split points (provide direction to you in the process).

I think you'll agree, that it is not fair to the experts who take the time to help you, to not get your response to recommendations made.  This is an IT Collaboration site, and success for all really does require ongoing feedback to the experts by the Asker, and awards of points when the goal is attained.  Sometimes the A answer and correct answer is "this cannot be done".  But in this case, what, exactly, is your situation that would cause you to want a refund?

Listening further for your response here, ajosephson.
