Sending a PDF file using SMTP

Maybe this is not the best topic for my question, but let's try.

I have a simple e-mail client that uses pure SMTP.
I want to attach a PDF file. I know about mime extensions, but I can't find documentation or examples about it.
? Do you have some link to doc ?
