There are many ways to do this depending on the level of security you need and the scripting languages you want to use.

Javascript can do a simple pop-up password, but it is easily hacked.

I use an ASP solution on my sites, but your server would need to support ASP.

There are also CGI-bin solutions, and some hosting companies can implement passwords on certain directories if you ask.

So, in order to give you a more specific answer, please tell me the following:

How secure does this have to be?
How many passwords will you need to use?
Does your server support ASP?
