Maxdor D 740 - 40 GB Hard Drive question?

I have the above drive and the green LCD light blinks all the time.  I am referring to the LCD that shows the drive is up and on, not the light that shows drive activity. I have the drive connected to a Promise ATA 100 card. The LCD light on the Western Digital I replaced with the Maxtor did not blink, it stayed on all the time the computer was on.  Should the LCD on the Maxtor be blinking.  I guess I want to know that I installed it correctely.  It appears to be operating OK.

Sounds like that drive is using its power light for drive activity as well.
I remember some old drives in compaq machines had little green led's on them that blinked when in use.

as long as youre not getting read/write errors or drive not available errors you should be fine.

Hope this helps
(hey you have the same first name as me :)  )

To rule out the Promise card, what does the drive do if you put it on the normal IDE controller on the mobo?

I have a feeling you don't have anything to worry about.
