In the most part - put CD in drive, boot from it, follow on screen instructions.

No

Yes

Mandrake 8.1 is quite good and will allow you resize your existing Windows partition as part of the install. Download or order it from http://www.mandrake.com/

But the distro of Linux that is best for you really depends on your personal preferences.

Hi dorward
Ok I understand. and something else. If I decide to install
Win NT 4.0 server what happen in this case?
1) do I must uninstall Win Me?
2)Is it an easy job?
Can I have the steps?

Why the adverstisements is not arriving to me via e-mail
that someaone has answerred my question?
Windows NT4 server can exist side by side with Win ME and Linux... but you are going to start running out of space if you try to fit 3 OSs and their applications in to 20GB.

This should help:

http://concord.homeip.net/papa/images/triboot.htm

(Treat ME as if it were 95/98)

As for the best versiion of Linux it would be close match between the lastest form RedHat and Mandrake, I have Heard that Mandrake 8 had a number of bugs, they should have been fixed by 8.1, As for RedHat 7.1 it is a satble, nice distro, but isn't as visually appealing, I suggest you try both and decide for yourself.

I have tried a number of distros, and they all have their good points, and the bad points, I liked Debian, but it is not the easiest distro for a beginer, I had a number of problems, with it, but that was on a 486, with a small hard drive I kept running out of space.

I recommend at least 3 GB of sapce, for Linux but this will not allow for all these nice, apps that you get with it.  the full install of the evaulations (2 CD's) of both Mandrake 7 and Redhat 7.1 took about 2 GB and that is with out anything extra installed.

As for NT 4 it is dead, in mist circles, even though a lot of networks still use it, all new ones are using 2000 linux and soon XP.

Anything else
just ask

Yeah, I recomment Mdk.  I run 8.1 on here and my laptop, and when we got this it came with WinME.  I bought Mdk 7.0 and it ran fine, aside from a couple hardware problems (no sound or modem, but that's because it's a bad modem and a sound chip, not a card, so there weren't drivers for it).  It's by far the easiest to install that I've done for a beginner, but when you learn how to install, it's advantage is that it looks better when installing.  Hehehe.
