Need agent to move incomming mail to specific folders

hi,

i want to have an ganet automatically run using my notes clinet only (!!!).

e.g. if a mail from ee arrives it should be moved into the ee folder.

i created an agent and it runs perfectly by using "running from menu". using run before/after mail arrives it doesn't work at all.

i think that i make a very easy mistake, but can't find it. i read the help and other open questions.

any idea?

Do you have R5?  If so there is a view called RULES in your mail file.  This will allow you to do exactly what you're asking.  If you're using release 4 I'm not sure what to do...

hi snocross,

i created a rule saying that mail which arrives from the sender (contains) expert-exchange should be moved to folder EE.
the rule is enabled.

i received mail, but nothing happens.
do i need to specify when the rule should "run"?
I wonder if you have to press the ENABLE rule(s) button in the rules view?  Maybe it overrides the YES setting on the rule itself?

OR

Maybe you need to specify EXPERTS-EXCHANGE in capital letters?  When I receive these e-mails they are all caps.  Maybe do a simple test with just 'EXPERTS'... or do a test from yourself and put anything received from you into the folder just to make sure the rule is executing.
hreinart,

You didn't specify if your internet mail is being delivered by a Notes server or if this is SMTP/POP mail. The only time I've been able to get rules to work is if I'm collecting the mail from the Notes Server.  Hasn't yet worked on SMTP or POP mail.  I remember reading that Notes fixed this in 5.05, but I'm running 5.08 and rules still don't work unless you're running on the server.

Local agents need to have "enable local agents" in your user preferences checked.

Also, I've noticed that the before/after mail arrives is only triggered by the server delivery.. so, try "if documents have been created or modified"

cheers!

ok, i'm not using any server and i'm using pop3 to collect my mail.

this would mean i can't get the rules to work?

i'll give the "if new documents are beeing created" a ty and see what happens.

if nothing would work, i mght have to install a a server(?),
but i don't want to...

thanks

hreinart,
I ended up adding my own spam agent to kill my pop mail spam on locations that collect mail direct from the ISP.

But I see on Notes.net there are a few solutions sitting out there that you can configure on your mail file.

On the simple side, the agent can check to see if your internet Addr821 name is in any of the Sendto, Copyto, and BCC fields for the memo form and move them directly to the trash bin.

A more complex solution is to use the solution posted in Notes Net:

Moondancer,

He either needs to write an agent to collect and dispose of spam in his pop mail configured lotus account, or use the posted solution in Notes.net.  The rules functionality only works on SMTP mail being delivered from the server and is server run.

Also, because it is SMTP mail, he needs to configure the agent to read the address821 property of the mail being delivered.

Then he needs to enable "run local agents" on his client.

marilyng:

can you send me this agent?
but it would be requred to to move mail to trash . instead please allow some folders (being created in the mailfile already, like "ee").

thanks

hreinhart,

What both I and Notes.net have are integrated solutions..that is I have a profile form that I use to keep track of junk list names, subjects, attachments, etc., and three or four agents that either show me the message id, mark the mail as junk, process automatically, or process manually.

The benefit of the Notes.net solution is that it also runs on domains.. so you can mark whole domains for trash.

Either way, it's not a simple agent, it a bunch of steps -- paste the form, add the actions to the global actions so they show up in the mail file, and then configure the agents, views and actions to work on the mail file.. which means you have to create a template and associate your mail file to the template, else any time you upgrade, you will loose your modifications.

What you might want to do is go to the link at Notes.net and download the nsf file container used to package the solution and see if you can follow the instructions.

If that seems too complicated, then my solution won't help you either, because it's similar.

Let me know..

Marilyng
can you provide a link to this container?
