Sharing Access 2000 databse with large number of users

Using Access 2000 on Win98SE machines across a Novell network. Need to share a database among 70 users. Max simultaneous connections probably avg 5, max 20.

What approach is best to share an Access 2000 database with so many users?

First, you should split the database if your not going w/ the SQL backend (which is recommended the most).  Split the database in access, put the backend on a dedicated machine that will host this file.  Share the directory.

Put the front-end of the database on the client.  There is help in the access help files to do this.  You could noticed a slow-down, that's why I recommend to buy SQL 7.0 & doing the sql upgrade wizard.

I've only had experience w/ MS Networks, so not sure if you'll run into any problems w/ novell.

Thanks for the comment! We have Sybase and Novell. Any help there? I am familiar with splitting databases, but not for this many users.

I'm rejecting your answer only so that this question can be opened to comments by other experts. I'm still interested in your comments and willing to award points to anyone (yourself included) who can help us.

(The usual standard is to post possible answers as comments, not as proposed answers, then let the questioner select and award points.)
