Control (OCX) Reference Issue (I Think)

Hello All,

I'm at a loss. I've developed two runtime applications with MS Access 97 (ODE) that are identical with exception of an addition Outlook control - one application does not have the Outlook control, the other does. When I compile the application [without] the control and install it on a target machine, I have no problems. When I compile the application that has the added Outlook control and installl it to the target machine, I receive errors in my application that deal with the Data(), Left() anbd Right() functions. Now, I read some articles that state the problem has been found in the different versions of the comctl32.dll or ocx ( not sure which one).

Here's the problem: If I remove the Outlook control from the application that I've added the Outlook control to, even though I remove the Outlook control, the problem still exists with the (Date(), Left(), etc functiond. By the way, the problem I'm experiencing is, #Name? in form fields that use the Date() function.

Somthing is happening  when I reference this control MS Access Menu Tools > References. The comctl32.dll that is on my delevopment machine is different (newer) than the one on the target machine, but the first application [without] the Outlook control has always worked fine. If I remove the reference to the Outlook control and then recompile the second application, it still doesn't work.

I tried to copy/paster the newer comctl32.dll to the target machine, but received a message "Windows is using this control, or something of that nature.

If I have to re-register this control (how) should I do it? Why is my first application working fine without having to re-register?

I hope I've explained this well.

If you continue to have problems after removing the missing reference, copy it from your machine and include it in your setup.  or copy the dll and ocx and then run the app.  if you get errors then register the new ocx and try again.
