text,varchar,ntext datatypes

Hi ,
i tried using text,nvarchar,varchar(8000),ntext etc datatypes to store large data.
but noticed that  sql is storing around 1000 characters.
i tried to store thru VB appln, its same.
why is that so. any idea ???

I think you only get displayed 1000 characters...
I have saved up to 8000 caracters in (var)char, for TEXT the limit is 2GB, and is handled differently for large strings...
