Ahhh the curved text in Photoshop question. The answer: you cant without either alot of elbow grease or some money for extra software. The cheap way is to place each character individually along the curve, rotating each a little more as you go around. The expensive way is to buy one of several tools from extensis. None of which are products i would be especially inclined to recommend. Of course you can go the super expensive way and buy Adobe Illustrator, a real typesetting tool, which will put text on a curve, zig-zag, loop-de-loop, you name it.

Like weed said, you have to do it manually.

There are ways to speed this up...if there are 7 characters to input, create your circle on a layer, then make one text layer above that and enter your first character at the top of the circle. Then  dupe that text layer 6 times, and then go to each layer and rotate the character as nec., finally, edit each layers' character (in the Text dialog) to replace it with the correct character.

Be sure to use Photoshop 5.5's Transform box (Free Transform or Transform-Rotate) to do the rotating, because each has a "point of origin" dot in the middle of the box that will help

Assuming you've put the first character at the top of the circle, when you choose Transform and get the box around it you can drag the point of origin dot to the center of the circle. Then when you rotate the box, the character rotates around the center of the circle (the point of origin) rather than just staying in basically the same location and twirling around.

The best tutorial I've found explaining this process is here:

Don't forget freehand either.  In fact if you don't have flash, why don't you buy that along with freehand.  Just spend your food money for the month.

What is freehand alanmcclure ?
Macromedia Freehand is a PostScript illustration program just like Illustrator.
Freehand is the Macromedia equivalent to adobe illustrator.  Some people like it better some don't.  But either way, it has gained acceptance by the professional web development community as a professional application that is highly powerful.  If you buy it together with Flash 5 in the same package, they give you a discount.  And I would recommend getting both.  But that is just me.

Photoshop v5.5 does not have the ability to wrap text.

Photoshop v6.0 has the capability to make vector graphics as well as a whole bunch of new text effects.
It should be added that Photoshop 6's text and vector tools are still lightyears from Illustrator but then vectors and text arent really Photoshop's job.
hi, even if you dont know how to use Illustrator, alll you have to do is: Go to illustrator, and draw a circle using the circular marquee tool. Then go to the text Icon. There will be an option for typing text along path. and voila! your text will come along the path!!!

I read somewhere an easy way to wrap text along a circle in Photoshop using Polar Coordinates..... Will find it and will post it... gimme a couple days...

Good vibes!!
Yeah you can do it with Polar Coordinates but its not pretty.
hey weed, can I get your opinion on my portfolio?  If so let me know.  I don't want to burden you if you are really busy.
Sure, post a link to it somewhere. Not sure how quickly ill be able to get back to ya since im headed into the field today.
Okie, the wolf's back.....

1. Type the text string into a new Text Layer.
2. Render the text layer (Layer>Text>Render Layer).
3. Apply Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates using the Rectangular to Polar setting.

Now, for this to work into a perfect circle you need to have a perfect square area to start with. So you might want to create your curved text in a separate Photoshop document and copy-and-paste when you're happy with the result. Keep in mind that the string will distort considerably, the letters will look rather like an Expanded font so you might want to use a solid and strong font that can stand the distortion.

Another option would be to go the Illustrator way and set your type there. After you're done you can export the result as an EPS and Import it into a Photoshop layer.

Good vibes!!
