Flames!: Personal Firewalls - Hate Any?

BlackIce, ZA, Sygate, et al (YOU name it, not me).
Even McAfee, Symantec .. (suite makers)

1. Identify product(s) best you can
2. Don't bother to support them, give kudos, for that has happened in EE frequently enough for me
3. Describe what went wrong, personal experience
4. Theoretically... well, those generalized diatribe's ok if response to #3 is too anemic
5. Outside references ok, links, threads - but to benefit others here (me), include at least a brief summary of what lies behind the link, so we don't all have to read more than we have time for
6. Be as current as possible. For example: saying that a two year old version of a product does not work on the latest service pack can obscure the nature of upgrading that should 'normally' be coordinated; and the current users of such products (newer versions)
7. but, sometimes a corporate offering can repeat bad behavior, so really, anything having aggravated you applies to legitimate beef, and flames here (since habits quite may get repeated)
8. Will exercise some flexibility on Points/awards based on content/contribution.
9. a decent collection here may lead to raising opposite issue of favoritism. Or, if interested in participating in a 'favoritism' thread, drop quick note here, if there are enough, I'll put it up
10. Violate any rule, including those above, as this develops, as you see fit. Don't be expecting a lot out of me... but I'll be back

In case that thread ever gets PAQ'd, here's the essense of the comment of The--Captain, to help get this going.

> "BTW, in my experience, blackice is a complete joke and zonealarm is not much better.  The fact that they are considered good security tools in some circles should reveal the pathetic state of microsoft security."

-----

As to links/web_info, I think there are many like Gibson's where some comparisons were made and where some newsgroups may thread relevant content (hence certain parts of my rules_list). Repeating, the intent here is to collect the bad_news, not to argue over which is better (which could become another future thread again).

Similar products to those I listed are solicited, I have no intention to focus on any specific 'short-list'.
my 2 pence for subscription:

there is a prog/hack/trojan/virus/whatever in the wild which tunnels any PF, and the comment about this from the vendors (do not yet remember if it was ZA, McAfee, ..) was rather simple: not our problem/bug/mistake, it's a security hole in the underlaying M$ libs.

Since then, I simply forget about PF. It's nice to have, show unexperienced people what can be done, avoid simple kiddie's attacks, and that's it.

Think I simply subscripe this question, 'cause I expect a lot of LOLs :-]]]

The--Captain, hope you assambled all my "take care" ;)
oops, forgot the disclaimer:
all vendor names have been named before, just reused them as example names

Tried ZA (not Pro.  Jammed sometimes, lost configuration sometimes, need to pay to support Microsoft ICS.

Now using Tiny PF.  Works well including MS ICS and is free.
In any case, I believe the question "How do I secure my Microsoft?"  should be an internationally recognized oxymoron.  The only people who disagree are the folks who are trying to make a buck convincing you otherwise (i.e. mickeysoft themselves, security firms, mickeysoft certified bozos, mickeysoft consultants, your bosses, etc.  It really *is* the evil empire - the DOJ should just declare mickeysoft an organized crime syndicate, and prosecute the lot of 'em.  Also, I'd tack on a charge of sedition, WRT the failing economy.  Would the nation really be in such dire straits if everyone regained the time they currently spend dicking with mickeysoft BS on their computers?).

P.S.  While I'm on a rant, is everyone aware that while the government had no problems giving billions of $$ to the airlines to suuport their failed business model WRT consumer confidence, they refuse to give Amtrack a paltry billion to continue operating as they have to this point?  I don't know about you folks, but every single ride I've ever taken (which has been quite a few) on Amtrack has been about 1000 times more enjoyable than any plane trip I've taken (with the exception of British Air - free drinks, a huge smoking section, free movie with free sound, and good food - it's true. the British really *do* know how to travel).  The only way you get such service on an american airline is to bitch your ass off, and hope they appease you rather than throwing you off the plane.  Of course, you will never be able to smoke or eat good food - free drinks is about the best any worthless american airline can offer.

> DOJ should just declare ... an organized crime
syndicate

Some ex-employees of billion dollar failures are beginning RICO actions (beginning - "insider trading.."), perhaps they'll show your DOJ (or "the states") just how to do just that.

hey, now, multiple awards possible... could it be that everyone else is satisfied? No: "I am satisfied" allowed now, no retorts, just counting up of one_sided flames: let go

> P.S.  Sunbow - I know I've said this before, but it bears
