Template images of Win2KPro with different profiles

After installing Windows 2000 Pro and adding software needed by all our users, want to make a template/ghost/image of drive and build all future computers from that template.

Problem is profiles. Win2K asks for those to be set up just after installing. How can we use a single template across many machines and change the profiles to be unique for different users once we begin delivering the machines?

Note that I have very little NT background, previously only supporting a Win98/Novell network. This is for our second network, which I am just learning about.

Normally you set up an install using an administrator login. Set up all the programs, and then copy the information to a default User profile.
All users will inherit this profile, so only required programs used by all should be there.

This should then be imaged.

Make any additions beyond this during installation, but try to keep everything as standard as possible !

I hope this helps !

ASKER

How do I copy the information to a default user profile?
If it's a clean 2000 install go under C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator

(you'll need to logon as another user with admin privledges to accomplish this... I don't think it'll let you copy when you're logged in with this profile)

Make sure you show the hidden folders and system files (Explorer Menu > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders & uncheck "hide protected operating system files"

Select all the files and folders under the Administrator folder and copy them to the folder named "default user"

Make sure you heed SysExpert when he/she says to keep everything as standard as possible... that means not to mess with too many settings or personal preferences before copying.
