what do you need this for ? I believe what you want to do is to increase the virtual memory is this so ?
It should be as big as your hard drive can allow. If you have partitions, then you may have to modify them.

What (if any) error messages are you getting when you try to write to the temp folder?
NOTE: BEFORE YOU DO THIS CHECK YOUR FREE HARD DRIVE SPACE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH TO DO THIS....

Go to start, settings control panel double click on system then go to the performance tab and click on virtual memory then select let me specify....and then set the memory to what you want and then put the maximum to the same number you set the total for leave minimum at 0
stanaslosh, Follow this in stepwise: -

(1)   Use windows explorer, Go to the folder of C:\window\Temporary Internet Files
Select all the files within each of the subfolders of it and delete all.
Next, go to the recycle bin and empty it all.

Go to the folder of C:\window\Temp.
Select all the files with extension *.tmp and delete all.
Next, go to the recycle bin and empty it all.

        Carry on to step 2.

(2)   Restart the computer to normal desktop. Go to the control panel, system, performance, virtual memory, click the radio button [x] Let me specify my own virtual memory.
Minimium: 32 MB              [0.25% of your RAM size, assuming you have 128Mb ram]
Maximum: 256 MB            [1 to 2.5 times of your RAM size, assuming you have 128Mb ram]

        Click OK. Restart the computer.

(3)   Next, restart the computer, press <CTRL> or <F8> key before win98 logo appears,
At the boot menu, go to the command mode.

At the C:\ prompt, type "scandisk /all /autofix /nosave /nosummary /surface" without the quotation mark and press enter. It will scandisk and fix errors and a detail surface scan.

Next,  at the C:\ prompt, type "scanreg /fix" without the quotation mark and press enter. It will fix the registry.

Afterwards, at the C:\ prompt, type "Defrag /ALL /F /noprompt" without the quotation mark and press enter. It will start to defrag your drive.

Finished. Restart the computer to safe mode and then restart to normal desktop.
        Shut down the computer.

Afterwards, start again to see if any help.

Let me know how you made out or if you have any queries.    pslh

Maybe I am missing something here but the question is <Is it possible to increase the size of Windows Temp Folder and if so how?>

Windows will use all the free space on the drive for the Temp folder so the only way to increase the Temp folder is to free up more space on the drive. If Windows is managing the swap file it will allocate space to it dynamically also according to the amount of free space on the drive.
PSLH has given the best method of creating a clean and efficent swap file but by restricting the swap file to any particular number you will in effect reduce the size of the Temp folder because Windows will not be allowed to access the space restricted to the swap file.
If you want more space in the temp folder you have to free up space by deleting programs or other files or get a larger drive. So I would have to disagree with creating a set space for the swap file to increase the temp folder.
I would also ask why you ask the question, is it because you have encountered an error while using a program or is it a general curiousity?

Pankaj79, , your are new to this site, and with that, Welcome. However, we observe a protocol or policy at this site with which you should become familiar. Experts do not post proposed answers that are incomplete or that are speculative, nor do they post proposed answers that incorporate the comments of others that have been preceded you. Since questioners can accept comments as answers, it is beneficial to the questioner that speculative answers be posted as comments, especially when the issue involves further troubleshooting.

In your case, you echoed the comments of Pslh and Mrbreeze as your proposed answer. It would be appreciated if you would not do that in the future.
Dennis
stanaslosh, why you accepted the Pankaj79's proposed answer???
Please give us your reply.    pslh
Dear Dennis
Yes, you are right about the policy thing.
1) But one thing that needs to be understood is that as a novice user would you do all that pslh wrote in his comment? I don't think he would like to try using scanreg even though we know it won't do anything!
2) Questions by deinition are meant to be answered. What you think as an answer you write. If it works for the person who posted the answer it is good. If it doesn't he can always reject the answer and ask the answerer to elaborate (or give some other answer).
To speculate the motion of a rolling ball we don't go into the quantum physics operating behin the quarks that make up the electrons! OK I am exaggerating but what I mean is that his question could be answered in a fairly simple way. He did not want anything complex rather something that just works or explains!
Regarding further trouble shooting: Yes the discussion can always keep on...and the interested people can always keep posting their comments.
Dennis I guess you are the guy with maximum expert points right! Thanks for making me aware of this mode of behaviour. I will try to follow it I promise. But sure you expect a new guy to write answers for some points instead of just comments right! just for motivation :)
Bye
Pankaj (that's my name)
I have a complaint now too

I posted the first answer to this question I juts did not go into the detail Pslh went into.... but I was well aware of how to answer the question THEREFORE YOU ALL RIPPED ME OFF ! AND I WAS BEING NICE AND WITHDREW MY ANSWER
Brian, I have asked E&E admin to review this and award points to you and to Pslh, as Pankaj79's answer wasn't even close.

Dennis
yeah I guess that should be fair. I am impressed to see this community is really cooperative and adjustive. I like that.
Thanks Dennis.
and hey Brain how're you doing! Hi pslh.
Pankaj
I don't know about adjustive, but at least it corrects a wrong Pankaj. You shouldn't have gotten credit for this answer at all.
thanks dennis...
guess you are a good guy after all <s> :)
Brian, Ian is away this week, so Linda's is handling double duty. She'll deal with it asap, but let me know either way.
i think  fairly would be half credit for both me and pslh he gave more detail but we were on the same wavelength..... if that is what you think dennis
My general advice to experts is the following:
If you think the suggestion you are providing will solve the problem, then post it as an answer.  Be careful that the suggestion that you are providing is not one already posted as a comment.  If you want to agree with something someone else has suggested, make sure to post it as a comment.  If you are asking for additional information or clarification of the question, it should be posted as a comment.

stanaslosh,
For your future reference, when you go to grade a question, make sure that the proposed answer is by the expert you want to receive the points for your question.

If the proposed answer is not by the expert you want to receive the points, then choose the option below the question " 2.Reject xxx's proposed answer. Once you have rejected the proposed answer, you will get the option beside comments by other experts to Accept Comment as Answer.  You can then choose which comment you would like to accept.

briancassin & pslh,
Look in the topic area for questions I have posted to award you points for your contributions to this question.  Thanks for the cooperation :-)

Jeesh! Didn't mean to cause such a comotion. It was a simple question with a simple answer. I was able to come to that conclusion after reviewing all of the responses (suggestions or answers) and using the simple method of induction / deduction, I chose to award pankaj79 because his was the first made some common sense. Please, don't bicker among yourselves and remember the illustrious words of P.T. Barnum..."there is a sucker born every minute."  Pankaj79 was just lucky that this sucker had many points to award him. Keep up the good work and remember...K.I.S.S
