Windows98 Sign On/Off password screen

Removed .pwl extensions in windows directory. Removed password sign-on screen-OK.  How to get ride of the password log-off indication at Start/LogOff?  Control Panel/Users does not have a Users list, only a Wizard to set new users. Control Panel/Password has no user list.

try looking in registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\profileList
If you have no users profiles delete this key

Also remove windows profile

This may be something that TWEAKUI can fix. On the W98 CD load it from \tools\reskit\powertoy.

It has a lot of options for fixing the UI. I hope this answers your question.

since your answer begins with try, it seems more a suggestion than answer.
Please follow the protocol and post your suggestions as comments. By posting an answer you lock the question from other experts who may have an answer.

Thanks
Also try giving a login name but not a password, then it should stop giving you that message.

If not this program should do it for you:

vulle, you are new to this site, and with that, welcome. However, unlike Newsgroups and Usenets, we observe a protocol or policy at this site with which you should become familiar. Experts do not post proposed answers that are incomplete or that are speculative, nor do they post proposed answers that incorporate the comments of others that have preceded you. By doing so, you block the question from the view of another expert who may have a solution to the problem. Since questioners can accept comments as answers, it is beneficial to the questioner that speculative answers be posted as comments, especially when the issue involves further troubleshooting. Hopefully you will cooperate with us in the future.

Bluebird2,

Start the Registry Editor by clicking Start, Run and type in REGEDIT and click OK. Drill down and locate the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Choose Edit, New, Binary Value. Name the new entry NoLogOff.

Press Enter and set it to the following value: 01 00 00 00

Click on OK, close the Registry Editor, and restart to make the change take effect.

The answr from dew associates/Dennis was excellent for someone like me who is computer technically starved. Thanks to all. Problem solved.
I'm glad it worked Bluebird2, but why did you accept "vulle's" answer?
My answr & points was meant for dew associates/Dennis. But the last options screen for comments was directed to vulle.  I was stuck. Wanted to close out question because your answr worked just fine. Thanks, & confused.
Okay Bluebird, thanks for the info!
Hi,

Since these points were awarded in error, I have posted a question for dew_associates to receive the points.

Thanks- I think he should get them. If several experts answr your question, how do you direct the points to the person you would like to?
You need to post a question in Community Support (zero points) and reference the question number, and who you want to split points amongst.
