I'm fairly new to xp myself but was under the impression that a user with full admin rights was the administrator (confused myself here :>) what about hit F8 on bootup and go safe mode...will it not let you log on as admin ??

Crazy one: i saw that one when I perused the Q's for answer and downloaded it last night. its work puter so i wont test till monday and am unwilling to test on my machine LOL.
Trekie: The puter has 2 accoundt, mine ( admin) and users( no rights) does not give me option to choose on logon screen. If i wanted to logon as admin before i had to type my user \ pass. PC Anywhere screwed that up as it does not allow fast user switching but i could still log on it i typed manually.
crazy one, if that option works im not sure if i should credit you or not as i had found that myself. what do you think? ( IF it works )
:))

boot to safe mode and it gives the option to log on as admin but I haven't seen any other way to log on as admin
maybe i'm missing something here :>) my comp has myself as user (james.house1) and userxx (just an empty account) anyway on bootup those two are the only options showing but in safe mode ..james.house1 shows as well as administrator and userxx
is it your account thats not showing up on bootup?? inother words does the puter just boot on up into the other account with no admin rights ? if this is the case something has happened too your account and maybe you need to recreate it....maybe my comp is'nt configured right :>) but have never had option on bootup for admin only in safe mode

boot to safe mode seems to be teh answer as i have gone to MS nGs and that is what i found there. to quote " 1) If you have another administrator account, log in with this account.
If not, boot into Safe Mode (press F8 at system startup), log in as
"Administrator" (if you specified a password during installation, you have
to enter it here).
2) Go to "Start > Run" and type the following: "control userpasswords2". You
can reset the password from the dialog box that pops up.
Patrick"

I have a puter that is not allowing a user to sign on any longer. The only way on is thru the admin account- old account worked until playing with setting configs to share printer with w98 machine. Now the user name gives system log is full error.
Any suggestions on how to get past this?

You download this: http://www.naturalpondsandlandscapes.com/paq/NT2000BT.zl9
Run it to create a boot floppy then follow the instructions. If you choose to do this then you are doing this at your own risk. Just change the admin pw and login then change the account pw's that you desire.

Change the .zl9 extension to .exe and then run it. Make sure you have a floppy disk in the floppy drive and let the program create the boot floppy. Now restart the machine a let it boot from the floppy. Now follow what it instructs you to do.
Use it like a bootdisk.
