Can't Update Windows -- Internet Explorer 7 Keeps Freezing
I'm having problems getting the Microsoft Updates. When I select Start/All Programs/Microsoft Update Internet Explorer 7 starts and checks to see if I have the latest version of the update software. I then get the "Welcome to Microsoft Update" page and I select the 'Express' button. Internet Explorer then checks for the latest updates. When it finds an update I need, I click on the Install button and Internet Explorer freezes and becomes "Not Responding".
Another funny thing -- all the links on my desktop that point to a website have become inactive and the icons have changed from the Internet Explorer (or Firefox) icon , to a plain web page icon. Nothing happens when I click on any of these link icons on the desktop.
On this computer Internet Explorer seems to freeze on a lot of other web sites also. On my laptop it only seems to freeze when I try to do a Microsoft Update.
I tried re-installing Internet Explorer 7, but that doesn't help.

Download and open Dial-a-fix (http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix#Mirrors.2Fdownload_locations.2C_and_articles), check "Fix Windows Update:", and click "GO". Also, check here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914224
