New memory is the same but crashes the computer
I have an ASUS M2N68-AM PLUS mother board with 4 Gigs of Memory (2x2MB). I upgraded to 8 megs (2x4MB), but the computer doesn't boot up with the new memory. I get either a lot of numbers/letters on the screen (some rough equivalent to a blue screen of death, only in black and white), then nothing. The memory is the same.
Specs for the MB memory on ASUS website:
2 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR2 1066*/800/667 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Current memory: (1 stick) Spectek 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 B800
New memory: (1 stick) Komputer Bay 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800mhz non ECC
Is the memory wrong? Is there a big differnce in the brands? Is there something I can change in the BIOS toget it to work? Or, should I send it back?

seems the difference in the brand is making issue.
Can you remove the new memory and clean the slot with air to make sure it is not dirt that is making the problem.

Hi,
Take a look at the notes here which would suggest it is a problem with the board...

Install CPU-Z and capture what memory timings it says after you install each RAM module separately. I suspect the timings are different for each, and your system is forcing one of them to run out of spec. You may be able to get around this by manually setting the timings to the most relaxed timings between the two.
as xema posted, no 4 Gb listed in QVL
i agree it is misleading, since they post max up to 8 GB, and have only 2 ram slots
i would contact asus with it http://support.asus.com/contactus.aspx?SLanguage=en

You're right on. I guess I should have looked at their QVL before but I've never had an issue like this. I'll keep that in mind for the future that ASUS MBs are very picky about the memory.
The Komputer Bay memory is not on their list. In fact, there are no 4 Gig memory sticks on their list, at all, only 4G(2x2048), which is what's in there now. It's a little deceptive to say max 8GB but no vendor qualifies for 8. Thanks for all the answers.

Some of the motherboards are color coded for pairs. Make sure you have them in different colored banks.
