Antivirus Programes do not launch

I have a strange issue!

Dell Windows 7 machine
32bit

A computer running Mcafee Security as a service stopped working.
I uninstalled and and tried reinstalling, it runs through the installation and asks for a restart. when i restart the programe does not show up in control pannel.

When i browse to the McAfee website, it states that server cannot be found, this happens on all browsers.

i download Malwarebytes and installed. after installation the programe launches and immedieatly shuts down.

I have chrome which also exits on launch.

Before uninstalling Mcafee i booted up in safemode and run a virus scan and found nothing.

now when i bootup in safemode the same problems with programes shutting down as soon as it launches happen.

any ideas??

What kind of McAfee are you installing?  McAfee Agent or McAfee VSE? What version?  Is this a stand-alone installation?

Check the logs within McAfee.

Its an agent that connects to macafee to download latest uodates, its installed on 80 machines.

McAfee SaaS Endpoint Protection 5.2.0
You definitely are infected and need to be uing some kind of Boot Cd to eradicate.  i like the windows Defender Offline that comes in 32-bit Boot CD and 64-bit boot CD, but you will need a clean PC to create the CD.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/what-is-windows-defender-offline

You will probably need the Mcafee uninstaller wehn you are clean to start fresh.
MSE is getting very good reviews and is free, i use it on my computers at home.
Dear X-quisite,

Just to get a clear view on the question, you mean to say that the McAfee Anti-Virus icon disappears whenever you restart your machine ?

Kindly keep us posted.

I don't believe that the system is infected with anything.  McAfee is like any other virus software will not reside with another anti-virus software on the same system, without manual intervention.  It is not the end of the world!!  There is work-around.  First thing first, Malwarebytes will work with McAfee but you have to set them up so they can function within the same system.  Remember, not just Malwarebytes and McAfee, there are many anti-virus software out there that don't work/get along well...

the icon does not even appear, after installation you cannot see it in the programe filles.

normally you would be able to reinstall the client by visiting the McAfeeasap.co.uk website and login in and running the install from there.

i cannot even get to the website as it keep stating that the server is not available. which is not true because i can get to it from another computer on the same network.

I can browse to other websites but not mcafeeasap.com.

i have downloaded the installer on another computer and tried installing that way. as i described earlier when you run the install it runs through the installation and asks you to restart, once you restart the programe is not available.
Check your hosts file

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts

Most likely there is a redirect in ther for most Antivirus sites.

I have seen this with some flavors of Malware many times. it blocks all the sites and the update sites.
On the system that you are having problem with, please remove any anti-virus or anti-spyware software and then remove McAfee as well.  You must do a reboot and then re-install McAfee.

Also, please remove an cache in your browser.

Good luck.
>pjam
just tried booting up with windows defender and scanned the system which did reavel few viruses and was able to delete.

i rescanned to ensure that there were no other viruses.

rebooted and the same problems are still there.

>jgerbasi

there is nothing in the host files thats blocking.

>hunart
cleared the cache, still unable to browse to McAfee website

thank you all for your help so far, any other ideas?
I would run an update Malwarebytes full scan next.

The free download will work just fine.
Some viruses cannot be removed while Windows is running. That's because the virus itself is running, and it can prevent you (or an anti-virus scanner) from deleting or disabling the virus. So, that's why pjam suggested using a boot CD. When you boot from a CD, the virus is not running, and cannot stop itself from being deleted by the scanner that runs from the CD.

You might be able to get help from McAfee. They would be interested in knowing which virus Windows Defender found and removed. (Since McAfee was running when the system was infected, it should have prevented the virus from infecting your system. McAfee wants to know when that fails to happen, and which virus slipped through its protection.)
As I said before, I don't believe that you are having issues with virus or spyware.  Your system is having incompatibility with another software on your system.  As I suggested, try to remove the software one by one and then reinstall just McAfee.

The symptom you described from the original message did not appear to me a virus or spyware.
@hunart: The OP already said "Windows Defender did find a few viruses."
