I have a Windows 7 PC (Name: Bbloomfield) on the network that receives IP address from the DHCP server from the Domain Controller. The IP address is 192.168.1.74 and  computer name is "BBloomfield.nxxxco.com".

When I ping the computer name from this computer, it displays IPv6 address as shown below instead of 192.168.1.74 . However when I ping the computer name from another computer on the same network, it returns 192.168.1.74.

DNS server shows 192.168.1.74 as seen above.

  Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::80a2:cb53:35ad:3eda%11(Preferred)
  IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.74(Preferred)

Is this because IPv6 is enabled on TCP/IP property window? We do not use IPv6 at all. There are less than 15 PCs in the office. Should I disable IPv6 on each computer TCP/IP properties? Is there a downside for disabling IPv6?

What is obvious problem/disadvantage with disabling IPv6?
Based on articles given above, IPv6 does not seem to apply on a 15 computer network.
