Netgear N300 WNR2000v4 Wireless Router Problems

When I was trying to setup the WiFi on this model wireless router.  I wanted to set security to TKIP and the option was there in the drop down.  The Netgear said "we recommend AES" and it noted that higher data throughput was not supported with TKIP.  And then it would reset the setting to AES.  It would not let me choose.  So a couple of questions if I may - is it true that AES is required in order for N and/or AC data rates to be achieved?  I hadn't heard this before.  Secondly any thought how I could get the dern thing to submit to my will and use TKIP security?

Yes. TKIP is available as one of the options; however, I have never tried to set to it. I have been using AES without any problems with good connection speeds. Just one data point.
