Server 2008 R2 - no Disk 0 available
DELLR720 Server attempting to get Server 2008 R2 on it:
Boot up >
LifeCycle Manager
Select RAID 5
Select Server 2008 R2 SP1
Composing OS drivers
Manual Install
UEFI
Insert Media > Validating Media
Reboot
Here I get:
Boot failed: PLDS DVD+/-RW DS-8ABSH
Boot failed: OEMDRV
F11 > Boot Manager
Select Bios
See 'Disconnect UEFI'
Old Bios Boot Menu
Select optical drive
Windows setup starts
See one large drive (expected) Disk 1 Partition 1
I select next and get the error message:
Windows could not create a partition on Disk 0, The specified disk does not exist. The error occurred applying the unattend answer files <Disk Configuration> setting. Error code: 0x080300025
So I how do I get around this. I’m not sure where the unattend answer file is located or how to get a Disk 0 available.

What is the disk0? RAID or standalone drive? Does BIOS see this drive?

You need first to load a driver for RAID controller I think.
The image you are deploying to this machine is a sysprepped image which should perform unattended installation of Windows on Disk0. And if the driver for the RAID fails then it will not find the drive.
You can either load this driver manually or use another distributive for Windows installation and perform quite common installation of Windows 2008. And yes, it could be that driver for the RAID controller is still needed.

From within Lifecycle Manager under the option deploy OS it loads the drivers for the appropriate storage devices. No it's not sysprepped as I've installed it on quite a few servers just never a R720 with Lifecycle Manager.

Interesting. Can you change the drive order in BIOS then? Something is taking Drive0 slot and moving the real drive configuration to disk1 slot.

Not sure where that would be. Yeah, it's driving me nuts. This should be, out of the box, a straight install. Admittedly, the Lifecycle Manager is new to me but after booting into it 10+ times I can see the value. I'm just looking for the default values that would let me do this install.

Can you boot this machine from a standard Windows Installation media and see if the drive is still seen as disk1?

Then what prevents it from installing on disk1? Windows should be able to install on any disk in system.

It's looking for Disk 0. Don't know.

There must be an answer file on the image that I'm not aware of, never had this issue - but it is the first time installing on R720 with Lifecycle Manager.
First the name is Dell LifeCycle Controller but not Manager. And you are using Unattended installation which uses answer file created via MS tools. No always using manual as unattended is asking for the location of the unattended file; USB/Network location. Yeah, got the part about Controller/Manager.
The media I'm using has successfully installed without issue on other versions of DELL servers many times including Precision workstations and in an ESXi environment.

That was my question - can you walk to that server personally with a Windows 2008 DVD media and perform the normal physical installation? Because currently you are deploying the OS remotely.

I don't know where you got the idea I was installing remotely. I'm sitting next to it.

Well it seems after working for a day with DELL and finally getting to take a closer look at the media supplied by engineering that there is a disk configuration script running that is forcing this situation. Installing via an OEM media without this script present is available. While there was no solution here I appreciate the the and am still awarding the points.
This script is what I was referring to by saying answer file. Sysprepped Windows installation has a so called zero touch installation.
