Yes.   At it's simplest, you can get a bar code font.

While that gives you the symbols, it leaves you left to do the logic.  For example, on a 3 of 9 bar code, the start / end must have an *.

So depending on the code, you might be better off buying a 3rd party lib and save yourself some headaches.

Here's the one I use:

Jim.
Also worth noting is the size of the font that must be used...

You would think that the bigger the barcode font prints, ...the easier it will be for the scanner to raad it...

This was not the case for me...
The scanner refused to read really big fonts...
Then final font ended up being I think around 10pt.
But I used a generic free, 3Of9 font, ...so this may be different for you...

Here are are two free bar code fonts that I've been using for quite a while and recommend:

http://www.barcodesinc.com/free-barcode-font/
http://www.dafont.com/barcode-font.font

Both work well, but I prefer the second one. I suggest you install both to see which one you like better. I don't use them in Access, but I can't see why they wouldn't work in that — after all, it's just a font (and they work fine in other Office modules, including Excel and Word). Regards, Joe

Hi Jim

For some reason it randomly refuses to show a barcode on a sheet of 24 labels one or two randomly chosen does not show and when you print it chooses a different lable on the same sheet not to print the barcode. I wonder if it is something to do with it won't work until you pay for it. Crashed my computer a number of times when I click buy. Keeps coming up with "this is a valuation version". Bit of a nightmare!

Would be great if it worked. I am sure it's me, but I can't figure it out.

Joe that font does not work properly in Access
I use the idautomation stuff suggested by tncode. I have versions for Access and Crystal, and have yet to have issues with them.
Hi All

this question has not been abandoned. I did write a comment about the cost of the solution from tncode but it must have been rejected, the comment did not appear. It looks like the options are to buy something where the barcode is generated within Access by code and just suffer the cost.
