Mac Audacity issue with background noise
I have a background hissing that may cause me to re-record a huge amount of audio. I hear a sound which seems to grow louder then softer, but is distracting.
Is there a way I can reduce this and save the audio?
Thanks!

Do you hear that noise when you play it back on other hardware or computers?

Sadly, that Mic had a USB male plug that did to fit into the USB port when I bought it over a year ago, and I jammed it into the port. Not a good idea. In the meanwhile. I purchased a little USB extender which allows me to fit everything nicely.
I avoid that port now for important things but the other day made the mistake of recording some long while using that bad port for the mic. The sound had crackles throughout. So I needed to start over using the correct port.
Could that hissing have been caused by me using the wrong port?

Yes, I used the Audacity to reduce the noise, but it also reduces the quality of the sound of course.
How do I connect direct to the source card? Via the Mic input plug? I think that's a better choice and will purchase that microphone.
Can you suggest a better one than that? I do not want to find other problems because I bought a 9 dollar mic.
Thanks.
