Becoming an Expert

You can register as an Expert by creating a user name, creating a password, and providing a valid email address.

As an Expert, you may earn your Premium Service Membership by answering questions and receiving 10,000 points initially and 3,000 Expert points on a monthly basis to maintain your status. Questions range in point value from 50 to 500 question points. The question's point value is multiplied by the grade your accepted answer receives ("A" grades multiply by 4, "B" grades by 3, and "C" grades by 2). For example, a question worth 500 points with an "A" solution will be multiplied by 4 for a total of 2,000 points.

What must an Expert know?

Questions vary greatly in difficulty; some are very difficult and technically complex, while others require minimal experience with a product or technology. If you have any experience in a specific technology, you can get started answering questions to earn your Premium Service Membership!

Experts Exchange has over 950 zones where you can showcase your expertise. Zones range from technical topics, such as MySQL and TCP/IP, to digital living topics, including iPods and HDTV's. Check out the All Zones page for a full list of Zones.

How many questions must an Expert answer to earn Premium Service Membership each month?

Initially, you must garner 10,000 Expert points (about 7 questions) to earn your Premium Service Membership. Once you have reached 10,000 points, you must earn 3,000 points (about 2 questions) monthly to maintain your earned Premium Service Membership.
