win95 CD rom problem
I have a PC running win95, a while ago I compressed the HD for more space, I then got another PC and proceded to transfer stuff from onto it from the old one.
After getting what I wanted off the old one I proceeded to delete unwanted F&F so I could make enough space to uncompress the HD, in the course of doing this the CD drive stopped working oops !
It's been suggested that the easiest thing would be to reformat the HD and install win95 from blank again and this would solve both problems, cdrom and uncompression.
Would this work and how do I do it if it would if not can you help me fix it please anyone ?

Of course, 95 could be in your posession on floppy. If so, the CDRom will not be necessary. It will be a nice thing to have, though.
just to add to the above advice here is a url on useing fdisk incase you dont know how and the second url will guide you through the whole process from fdisk to installion

You need to get the CDROM working or replace it first so you can reinstall Win 95. I assume Win 95 is on a CDROM.
The question is why the CDROM stopped working. Was there a driver on the computer that controlled it and got deleted or did it just expire with old age?
Obtain a bootdisk with CDROM support from www.bootdisk.com and boot off that and see if that gives you your CDROM back. Check on startup and see if the CDROM is recognised by the machine.
Once you have got the CDROM back or repaced it then follow slink9's advice.
