Random words appear in Excel and Word documents!

I have  Office 2K installed on a PIII 500, 128MB, 40GB system running WInXP and Win98. When I open a new worksheet in Excel letters and words start getting typed in the cell!

The same things happens in word - I leave a new document open for a few seconds and words start appearing in the document '- like 'say i the very severe.." .

A virus scan with Norton 2002 - (with updated antivirus definitions) produces nothing. Any clue friends?

jayan65,

Do you have macros enabled in the document?

Hope this helps,

I agree with turn123, it sounds like someone has been messing about with macro's...

I will check the macro part and get back tomorrow.
In addition to disabling macros, make sure you disable any file sharing, change both Admin and user passwords, and quit running unessential programs.  Check the startup folder to eliminate programs there, and run TaskManager to view what is already running. They should stand out when those typings are ongoing. TaskManager can only kill what is running now, but they can get reloaded on the next bootup. So you also must find them in startup. Get another pattern, in case it is a new one. Shame on Norton if it cannot find a macro.

You can survive without normal.dot so consider dumping it too, or make a new one and overwrite the old.

This came closest to the problem as the speech recognition part was on! (in the tools menu). I disabled it  and things are ok.
jayan65 thanks, but if this has solved your problem why the C grade?

Sorry for the delay in communication. The reason was, that the answer was not spot on. It was the external input part (speech) enabled through the language bar. But i don't mind your changing the grade and giving 'masqueraid' top grade.

thank you
