Asus A7N8X-E Delux BEEP on Startup
Hi everyone.
I have an Asus A7N8X-E Delux MB , Athelon XP3000 with 1Gig DDR300 memory.
I have started to get a long duration (2 second) single beep on startup.
I have checked all wiring, removed the memory and graphics card (ATI Radion 9800 Pro) and reseated same to no avail.
My Bios reads:
"Unable to boot from CD"
"Unable to boot from CD"
(Twice), then "Invalid Boot INI file", and "Booting from C/Windows/"
I do not get the post Beep on a software reset, just the above Bios messages.
Thanks for any info re this problem, as it is a nuisance, and apologies if this is a fairly simple issue. I don't pretent to be Einstein re computers!
Best wishes from Australia.
Ken.

Thanks for the quick follow up folks.
What a great site.
Mwmmj, re your question on my setup:
I have 1 OS (WIN XP Pro & SP2)
OS on C Drive, with another partition on that drive for programs.
I have two separate 80GIG drives (IDE). 2nd drive is for media files.
I will go back to my BIOS and look deeper following your comments.
I'll let you know how I wnt.
Thanks once again for your effort.
Ken.

Hi Callendor.
Thanks for your professional ethos, but you were both correct. I have two desk tops, and was repairing in real time while on line.
I reversed the IDE cable from the two drives and now no 3 second fault beep.
I also went to the web site that Mwnnj provided, did as was explained, and now no:
"boot from CD"
"boot from CD"
Invalid Boot INI file"
My computer boots faster (much) and no alarm beep.
Great!!!
Thanks again to you both for the great assistance.
I wish I could give you both scores, but can't see how to.
Apologies Mwnnj, as I wanted to reward your effort as well.
Thanks again fellas (?) for your help with this problem.
What a fantastic site, and well worth the subscription price.
Best wishes from Australia.

i found many forum disussions on the net regarding the same problem, see this link:
http://www.pcplus.co.uk/tips/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=29025&subsectionid=390
if you can't get much of this message then we will help you go furthur, the problem actually is your boot.ini has been damaged/deleted ,,,
tell me please:
-how many OS have you installed on your pc + OS version?
-how many partitions do you have and where did you install the windows ?
!!!
i will give a sample of my boot.ini file !!use this info only at last !! ,please do NOT go experimenting with your pc,this is only as an example ,how looks like a boot.ini file!!!
let's say,i have one hard drive on first ide channel with first partition my bootable partition where i have installed my OS ::Windows XP SP2:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdi
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)par
this text you could save under the file named boot.ini and paste the file in C:\ and NOT in C:\Windows due the recovery console from the windows xp installation cd-BUT PLEASE do this stuff as a last resort.
