Polycom IP330 and Windows DHCP Server Options

I'm provisioning the phones using the boot type ftp, all is well in the that department. But when trying to setup a DHCP Option 128 to send the VLAN Identifier to the phone, the phone doesn't seem to get it...

Here's the Setup:

IP 330 Provisioned with ftp.
Sucessfully reading Custom SIP.cfg,sip.cfg,phone-ethernetaddr.cfg,phone1.cfg.
Phones boot successfully but not to correct VLAN.

DHCP Server has Option 128 defined in scope option
The vendor class is set to match the polycom ethernet frame
The String is set to VLAN-A=99; which is the vlan I'm accessing.

If I manually set the vlan during boot of the phone everything works perfectly. Why does it seem like the class is not matching the phone or why does the phone seem like its accepting the option?

Thanks for the help!

Hi there.
I think you make a confusion.
DHCP option 128 is tftp server.
You need to set DHCP option 132 for the VLAN ID.
Here is the list of DHCP bootp option list from IANA:
http://www.iana.org/assignments/bootp-dhcp-parameters/
Hello.

Option 128 is correct. As a matter of fact, the phone will examine DHCP options 128,144, 157 and 191 (in that order) for a valid DVD string.

However, please check the phone in the DHCP menu of the Main setup menu: the VLAN Discovery can be set to Fixed or "Custom". Only when set to "Fixed" will it check for the DHCP options. When set to "Custom", the value set in "VLAN ID Option" will be examined.

And that should do it !

Can you manually set the VLAN and have it working?

We use mitel but i assume it will be similar.

128 and 129 both point to the mitel controller on the VOIP Vlan and 130 is used to identify a IP Phone packet (the same text appears in the packet if you wireshark it)

the VLAN is done in 132

it sound as if your not identifying which packets to 'redirect'
Hi, did you manage to resolve this issue. I am having the same problem with assigning VLAN ID's using a windows DHCP server.

Thanks
Hello Chris,

Experts have made some very valid responses to the question, and most likely AdminBlue's issue is now resolved. (usually no news = good news...).

Can we close as solution accepted with points split ?

Thanks.

Sure, what would you recommend?

I found the responses a little confusing to be honest, hence delete.

If you'd posted that back in November I'd agree. Do you have a recommendation for the split based on existing answers?

Also make sure you have the latest firmware for the phones as they have done some updating to an issue with VLAN Tagging. Now the only issue I have is the phones will not release the initial IP Address off of the default VLAN (0).
