Missing NETLOGON share (//domainname/scripts), Error 5706, 2511 in Event Log, Everything FINE, Just want to Recreate Scripts Directory

I was setting up roaming profiles for our domain and wanted to set up a default profile. MSFT reccomends http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/DepKit/06f7eebc-2ebb-47c5-8361-1958b58078cc.mspx to copy a model profile to //netlogon/default user. I could not find this directory (or the netlogon share) anywhere on either DC. We have 2 W2003 SP1 DC's replicating with each other. Everything has been working fine on the domain--no problems logging in, etc. Netlogon service is started. The only reason you would know something is up is

EID 5706
The Netlogon service could not create server share G:\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain\SCRIPTS.  The following error occurred:
The system cannot find the file specified.

EID 2511
The server service was unable to recreate the share NETLOGON because the directory G:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain\SCRIPTS no longer exists.  Please run "net share NETLOGON /delete" to delete the share, or recreate the directory G:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain\SCRIPTS.

Now, I have looked at EventID and MSFT and they both reccomend  checking registry settings at netlogon\parameters\, but all of these are perfect. The path to the sysvol directory is correct on both machines.

Now the MSFT http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315457 article is great, but doesn't really talk about how to just recreate the /scripts directory. As everything is working fine on the machines, replication, etc. I see no reason to recreate everything.

I would guess the G:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain\SCRIPTS directory was accidently deleted. Can I simply recreate an empty directory there called SCRIPTS? If so, what should I set the permissions to be? Should I stop netlogon and FRS first because replication is in use?

I don't really like to mess around with AD unless I'm double-sure about what I'm doing.

Have you been in to that path to see if it is "just" the Scripts directory missing?

Both of those errors are standard messages generated by a shared directory being deleted without the share being removed first. Therefore if I was to see that error, I would simply recreate the "Scripts" directory, then restart the server. The error message should go away.

In \\domain\SysVol there is one directory, "policies" inside that directory is all the normal stuff. There is no "scripts" directory or any subdirectories (are there supposed to be scripts subdirectories?)

I am tempted to just add \\domain\sysvol scripts but what permissions?

Also on the Policies share there is DFS which was set up automatically as there are two DC's which replicate. Should I bother with any of this or just create scripts? Will it cause any damage? Should I stop netlogon and dfs services first?

Awesome, netlogon share now active.

One more question--I am trying to create a default user profile as per http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/DepKit/06f7eebc-2ebb-47c5-8361-1958b58078cc.mspx

It says to copy a model profile to \\netlogon\default user

But I can't find this anywhere--where does it live?

Usually a Template for new users is found here

Configuring a Default Profile
You can create a default profile to ensure that all users within a domain receive an identical profile the first time they log on. This option simplifies administrative control over the users’ desktops and settings.

To create a default user profile, you must be logged on as Administrator or a member of the Administrators group. Create a default profile for all new user accounts in a domain. Include any domain-specific customizations that you want in the profile. To create subsequent profiles, you can create a new user account as a template.

Before creating a new user account to use as a new user’s profile template, perform the following tasks:

1.
Log on to the domain as the new user, and then customize the desktop if appropriate.

2.
Optionally, install and configure any applications to be shared by user accounts made from this template.

3.
Log off, and then log on as the administrator.

For more information about creating a new user account, see "Create a new user account" in Help and Support Center for Windows Server 2003.

Top of page
To configure a new user account to use as a new user’s profile template
1.
After you create a new user account template, in Control Panel, click System.

2.
On the Advanced tab, under User Profiles, click Settings.

3.
Under Profiles stored on this computer, select the user that you created in step 1, and then click Copy To.

4.
To create the default user profile for the domain, type the path to NETLOGON\Default User on the domain controller.

5.
In the Copy To dialog box, under Permitted to use, click Change.

6.
In the Select User or Group dialog box, enter the object name to select, and then type: Everyone.

I'm talking about the one for the domain, which must be on the server somewhere (ie step 4 above)
