asked on

determine why remote file server has erratic performance

HI All,

I have a windows 2008 server acting as a file server on location A. I connect to a share on location A from a windows 2008 machine on location B. Both locations are behind a consumer based adsl connection.

The 2 location are connected to each other vis a logmein hamachi2 VPN network.

For months accessing files on the file server has been working excellent but recently I have to sometimes reset the file server to get to be responsive again.

I would like to investigate where these hickups come from. Is it a connectivity problem on location A or B or both?. Is it hamachi2 VPN being unreliable?. Is it some kind of Microsoft update that was installed that is causing the hickups?

How do I proceed to investigate what is the cause of this unreliable behaviour?

Regards,

DaFou

ok i have disabled the TCP chimney. I'll keep you posted about the results.

By the way, How do I determine if the TCP chimney was enabled in the OS in the first place? the document you linked to only profides command promt commands to enable or disable it, not determine the current status.

I had waited a while to allow a good test, but it looks like it is stabile again. I'll reask the question if the problem pops up again.

but for now thanks alot.
do you make these changes on the host, vm, or both?
