I believe you have to completely remove 2010 Beta before you can reinstall 2007.  See this link for a step by step:
              http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/13118/remove-office-2010-beta-and-reinstall-office-2007/

Before making any changes, make sure you have your system restore point properly set up so that you can undo any changes if something goes wrong.
Hi.

Be sure you are not trying to install a 64-bit version of Office on a 32-bit O.S.

puppydogbuddy .. sorry for the late response .... I had to put the 2010 BETA on because I could not install the 2007. That is why I have the Trial of 2010 installed to begin with. So uninstalling it will put me back to where I was and not being able to install my licensed copy of 2007.

Firebar... All windows server 2008 versions are 64 bit .... and I believe all office 32 bit versions are compatible I think 2010 has a 64 bit version. Any other ideas?
Office 2010 does have a 64-bit version, I use it. Not all versions of WS08 are 64-bit, though. All versions of WS08 R2 are 64-bit, but that is a different version from it's predecessor. Details matter.
My advice still stands.  The 2007 Microsoft Office system does not support upgrading from a prelease
(Beta) version of the Microsoft Office system. You must first uninstall any prerelease versions of the Microsoft Office system products and associated technologies usin the Add/Remove programs icon in the control panel.  Correct this issue(s) listed above and re-run setup.

If you have trouble installing your licensed copy of MS Office 2007 after uninstalling the beta version as per above, it probably means some component of the beta version was not uninstalled. See this link on how to do a manual uninstall:   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us
I second that advice

I think that the advice is solid however my only issue is this is the error that I had before installing the Trial so when I uninstall the trial I still will not be able to install office 2007 and the root of the issue will remain unchanged. Not sure why it allowed me to install Office 2010 and not 2007?
You need to completely uninstall <<all>>> components of any prerelease (beta) version of ms office from your system.  Use the manual uninstall method in the link I gave you, rather than the Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.

I guess my point is being missed. I will uninstall using your link however  what I am saying is the issue will still be there because nothing has changed. This is a new install of Windows Server 2008 R2. The 1st thing I tried to install was MS Office 2007. It failed. I tried the trial of 2010 it worked. However I am certain when I uninstall 2010 2007 still will not work because that issue has not been addressed. I will remove 2010 based on your link and attempt to install 2007 . I think I will get the same exact error. but will post my results. Thanks.
You need to also manually uninstall any components that got installed when you attempted to install MS Office 2007....in short you need to have a clean slate before you attempt to reinstall.

I did have a clean slate when it failed the first time. That is my issue.......
Has terminal services been involved at any point?

No not at all this is a dedicated Fax Server. that is all it is used for. GFI Fax we use it to fax only. The GFI needs it to convert the .Doc(x) documents ... .
regardless of what happened before, you need to get back to ground 0.  If any errors occur after that, we will have deal with.
Why Office on a Server, anyway?
Avatar of SC3P0

Fkrebar .... it is required by the GFI Fax software I run on the server. the GFI Fax server uses it to convert .DOC files into a Faxable format Without it the conversion fails in the Fax server and you are not able to fax out .DOC or Exel files ....
I see.

Getting into dangerous waters, how about looking in the Registry for the Office 2010 keys and removing them. How else can Windows know it was ever installed, but there?

Uninstalled 2010 and same issue. I click on the setup.exe and it begins and then in 15 seconds or so it stops throwing that error .... won't load. Any new ideas out there?
Have you tried a reboot between uninstall/reinstall? What does the Setup/Application log indicate?

Yes I did do a reboot as well ...
This happens when tried under the domain/ local administrator account. Is UAC showing up?
Avatar of SC3P0

ASKER

No UAC poping up at all ... I can try it under another user account
You will need to get back to ground zero again.  However, you can't run setup until you fix the following msi error:
the log is saying that your problem is this: Setup cannot find proplus.ww\office64ww.msi

See this link for info on how to handle:

Thanks puppydogbuddy ... but the only solution that link suggest is some form of Anti virus is blocking the install ... I don't have any anti virus software running ....
Every Windows machine should have A/V software installed.

puppydogbuddy ... I am throwing in the towel ... but I want you to have the points for hanging in there with me. I just rearmed the trial and will keep doing that until I move the Fax Function to another server. I built a new server and Office Installed on it no issues so I am moving the modem board to that.

Thanks ...

ss
Sorry to hear that you couldn't resolve your problem on that one particular server.....but glad to hear that you were able to install on a new server without problems.   Wan't the License Support Hotline able to help you?  If you decide to pursue the cause and solution for the problem machine, try the following:
1.  uninstall so that you are at ground zero again, then download the ProPlus msi and place it in the folder it is supposed to be located, then run the setup with ProPlus.
2.  If #1 above doesn't fix the problem, get to ground zero with the manual uninstall. the use a good registry cleaner program and find and erase any remaining MS Office files whether they be beta or working versions of  MS Office.
