Have to restart service to get network printer to work
Had a Windows 7 PC and connected my HP LaserJet 1020 to it via USB. Then using my other Windows 7 PC I would send a print job to it over the network. It was installed as a network printer. It never printed unless I restarted the Print Spooler service.
I've just replaced the Windows 7 PC with another Windows 7 PC and set the same printer up with it. Again, it will only print when I restart the spooler service!
Anyone have any ideas?

restart the "printer spooler service" since you are doing the same , as i experienced this issue is mainly with new OSs and in such case only new drivers can fix the issue,, try to get the new driver from the vendor website...

@Bawer - Yeah I had problems with the drivers with the first W7 machine and eventually got the right driver or at least on that worked, but I thought all the swapping of drivers probably stuffed that instance up. So I installed the working driver first time with the new W7 machine, but still no joy :-(
@sqsm81 - I like the idea, but I don't logon to the computer with the printer attached and as far as I know, .BAT file can't be executed remotely. Although if they could, a good work around would be to hit print and then double click an icon to remotely start the spooler service.
It worked fine with W2K8, although that wasn't 64Bit. Maybe have to wait for W7 SP1, although I like to wait for service packs to be out a couple of months to see what the reaction is to the unofficial 'gamma' testing before I use them.

@Bawer - I see what you mean. The drivers aren't the easiest to find but I think I have the latest ones and it still doesn't work.
This is the driver I've downloaded from the HP website and it says it's the only for for the HP LaserJet 1020 for Windows 7 32 bit and installed it on my client machine that is trying to print to the network printer. No joy!

Guess this is just one of those things...
