How to set up a Laptop to use an external Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse

Hi,

A client just bought a new laptop, an MSI A6200-038us, w/ Windows 7 HP.  Link
He has an external LCD vga monitor and would like to continue using it. I suggested he purchase a cordless mouse/keyboard combo and connect the LCD via the VGA on the back.
My question: What sort of power management settings do I need to set up so that this will all work seamlessly? Should I leave the laptop on all the time or have it woken by a movement of the mouse/keyboard? If he opens the lid of the laptop to power it on, then shuts the lid so as to use the external stuff, what settings do I need to change to allow this?
Also, if you anticipate any problems w/ this setup.....would you let me know.

Ta v. much!

I agree with garycase, and I have done similar things to laptops that had damaged LCDs, so that they could be still be used in a LAB or test environment.

 I hope this helps !
