Error 0x80070570 when delete files in Vista

When I try to delete certain files, I get an error:
Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable.
chkdsk sometimes runs when booting and the following error in recorded in the System log:
Event 55: "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolume1."
This machine had a virus infection, which caused the machine to stop booting after it was removed.
I imaged the drive, formatted, reinstalled and restored the backup.
It is one of the restored folders which now causes the problem.
After the previous reinstall, I made a new image and restored on to another drive and I get the same error.
I have run chkdsk c: /r numerous time and have run out of ideas.
Thanks for reading.

sounds like the files are corrupted.  Try using killbox to delete at the next reboot and try deleting in safe mode.

Files are damaged for sure. Do you need these files?

ASKER

Tried killbox there, machine currently rebooting.
Files not important, just need to either stop the chkdsk issue and the event log errors or identify the hardware which is at fault.

I have ran chkdsk /r numerous times, to no avail. I have also moved the second imaged drive into a different PC and get the same issue. At least this suggests that the issue is not related to the drive controller or other hardware in the the original PC.
I ran Seatools before and am currently running it again. I don't recall it finding an error last time and it has nearly completed again without an error.
In fact, it has just completed again and passed.

It seems my only option at this stage is to reformat, reinstall and try to be selective in the files that I restore. This is not an ideal resolution for me.
Thanks.
If only life were full of ideal resolutions... :)
Indeed, but one can still hope.

In this case in particular, I would like to find a way to resolve the error without reformating for two reasons. Firstly, if I see this issue again, I would like to know what to do. Secondly, any resolution will almost certainly take less time than reinstalling etc.
Did you run CHKDSK x:/R or F?
