How do I remove an Unclassified Banner from the top center of a desktop?
I have a system that I'm moving from a NIPR network to a SIPR network. On the system, I have a small banner in the top center of the screen that I need to remove. My search for a program to remove it has been futile and I have only recently heard that I need to traverse through the Registry in order to remove it. I was curious as to if there are particular perameters I need to keep an eye for in order to remove the banner or if a clean install of the OS is necessary.

You want to remove NetBanner.exe. You can remove Microsoft NetBanner from the Program and Features in the control panel, delete the file from c:\program files(x86)\Microsoft\Netba nner or better yet disable the task from Task Scheduler\Microsoft\NetBan ner
Scott, yes, absolutely. Needless to say, our NIPRNet and SIPRNet operating system configurations have changed just a bit since we originally started this discussion (regarding Windows XP) 10 years ago! However, the answer is still essentially the same.
That being said, you still can't really move a NIPR machine to the SIPR domain gracefully. In addition to the different GPO hierarchy that I mentioned within my original answer, there are entirely different SDC builds for each network: ActivClient software on a NIPR machine versus 90-meter on a SIPR computer, etc. The bottom line is that is shouldn't be done.

I agree you should not do it. I was just answering how to get rid of the banner. It often blocks the top of apps so you cant close it or pick menu items.
